NASPA and ACPA to Remain Separate

Apparently ACPA and NASPA are different enough as national organizations. The official announcement came to me via NASPA, but without voting tallies. After a bit of search, I discovered the ACPA President’s Blog which stated that ACPA had passed enough votes to unite, but NASPA had not (each group had to have a 2/3rd’s majority for unification).

Anybody have thoughts about this? I’m pretty new to the profession, and my NASPA membership was purchased for me, so I don’t have any real loyalty. Perhaps some of our other authors will write more.

Edit:

Jeremy Stringer sent this voting breakdown along:

NASPA Voting Breakdown

* 42% of eligible voters cast a ballot
* 62% in favor of consolidation
* 38% in opposition to consolidation

ACPA Voting Breakdown

* 42% of eligible voters cast a ballot
* 81% in favor of consolidation
* 19% in opposition to consolidation
